Jim Woods has published more than 400 articles in Outdoor Life, Popular Mechanics, Petersen’s Hunting, Guns & Ammo, Shooting Times, Guns, Southern Outdoors, Western Outdoors, Gun Digest, and other national outdoors periodicals; and has contributed to the hardbound anthologies, A Guide to Handmade Knives; Guns of the Gunfighters; and Hunting in Zimbabwe He is a novelist and short-story author, and when not writing for himself, edits other authors’ novels and nonfiction book-length works under private arrangement. He conducts writing-technique workshops for authors’ groups and writing conferences. Jim Woods worked as Editor, Editorial Director and Managing Editor for (then) Petersen Publishing Company, Los Angeles; and as field Editor with (then) Publishers Development Corporation, San Diego. He has worked as an engineering writer-editor in the aerospace/defense industry, and served, honorably, with the U.S. Navy. He is actively included in the Safari Club International (SCI) Professional Outdoor Writers Registry (POWR). His past professional associations include membership in Outdoor Writers Association of America (OWAA) and American Society of Journalists and Authors (ASJA). He is listed in WHO’S WHO IN AMERICA 58th Edition, 2004. He holds the dubious distinction of having been a prisoner in Angola, under 24-hour personal guard of a Cuban soldier with a decidedly evil looking AK-47 inches away from Jim’s throat, this before the safari even started. To continue his life adventures, Jim drives an open top roadster, fast, raising the top only in rain to protect the interior leather.
